Math
We explore Math using manipulatives. We focus on addition and subtraction to 18, numbers to 100, money, time, graphing, geometry, measurement and fractions. In the fall, we learn strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems to 12. In the winter, we build numbers to 100, using tens and ones blocks. We learn how to count money, tell time to the hour and half hour. We graph data onto charts and graphs. In the spring, we study geometry, measurement and fractions. We add and subtract numbers to 20. We conclude the year by adding and subtracting larger numbers with no regrouping.
Religion
Religion is an important part of each school day. We attend Mass once a week. In the classroom, we learn about our church community, our loving God, God's son, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and Jesus' Church of Followers. We follow the church liturgical calendar and discuss the feasts and seasons of the church year.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we learn about school life, family life, the community in which we live, the land we use, our country, and our world. We develop map and global skills. We read charts and graphs. We learn about holidays and important people in our country's history. In November, we learn a Thanksgiving poem which we recite at the Thanksgiving Mass.
Science
We explore our world in science. We learn about plants and animals and where animals live. We examine fossils and rocks. We discuss the earth's natural resources and explain ways we can conserve them. We observe the weather, the sky and learn about the seasons. We investigate matter and how sounds are made.
