Mrs. Byers has been teaching second grade for 30 years. 21 years at St.Edward,8 years at St.Albert, and 1 year at Sacred Heart of Jesus. She works very hard and we are very proud to have her working here. Her schedule varies depending on special area. What she likes best about St.Edward is that the chidren are wonderful, supportive parents and terrific, caring faculty.

Mrs.Rutledge has taught second grade at St.Edward for 4 1/2 years. She teaches all subjects. St.Edward is the only school she's taught at. She likes that St.Edward is very supportive to everyone. Her schedule also varies between special area. The same classes for special area as Mrs.Byers goes for her too.
The second grade students classes are Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies, and Spelling. The special area classes are between Pe, Art, Spanish, Library, Music, Computer.
An important message from Mrs.Byers: 10 Guidelines For Good Discipline
1. Thou shalt not belittle your child.
2. Thou shalt not bribe a child.
3. Thou shalt not use overprotective supervision of the child.
4. Thou shalt not talk excessively to a child.
5. Thou shalt not insist on blind and instant obedience. (Dont treat as a slave.)
6. Thou shalt not pamper and overindulge a child.
7. Thou shalt use an inconsistent rule or limit. (Be consistent!)
8. Thou shalt not use rules that are inappropriate for a child.
9. Thou shalt not use moralizing and guilt inducing methods of discipline. (The Jewish mother syndrome!)
10. Thou shalt not give any command that you don't intend to enforce immediately.
Second grade students also have peace buddies who are in eighth grade. Every student is paired up with either one or two eighth grade students. They make cards and do special activities with each other too.
