St. Edwards School offers a music program to all students in the school. Our music program is a child centered approach to music education. We follow the curriculum guidelines as prescribed by the Department of Education. The five components of this program are listening, moving, reading, writing and creating.
Students are active participants in rhythmic activity. They are exposed to Orff, note and rhythmic reading and writing, movement, dance, and music games. Through song, students learn about the music of other cultures throughout the world. Our students study composers, instruments, and various musical genres.
Our well-rounded music program , fosters a love and awareness of the many aspects of music. By interacting with a rich musical environment, the child can learn to listen, expand powers of concentration, improve speech, develop language, develop social skills, develop sequencing skills, improve discrimination, and above all develop aesthetic sensitivity.
Music is a really great class. Students begin in Kindergarten with speech chants, body percussion, and creative movement and grow toward full Orff ensembles and hand bells in Middle School. A portion of each class is spent preparing for our celebrations of Eucharist or another type of prayer experience.
During the month of March we celebrate ''Music in Our Schools Month'' with two days of student, staff, and parent performances. Every student performs wih their class during this celebration.
